Research Writing

researchtext

We are getting ready to embark on a new genre in writing: research writing.  Research writing is very different from narrative writing.  Based on your past experience and background knowledge, compare and contrast research writing with narrative writing.  How are they alike?  How are they different?

Also, what is the hardest part about conducting research or writing about your research for you?

Phillip of The Cay

10/22/2009

When Phillip was first separated from his mother, after the S.S. Hato was torpedoed, he found himself on a raft with an “ugly, black man.”  Phillip did not know what to think of Timothy, especially because hismother had taught him that “they are different, and they live differently.”  Phillip thought that “it was very strange….to be lying beside this giant Negro out on the ocean.”  Once, their bodies touched and they “both drew back”, Phillip drawing back faster.  Now that Phillip has spent so much time on the cay with Timothy, do you think Phillip would agree with his mother that “they are different?” Why?

Multiple Intelligences

10/09/2009

In reading class, we explored the different kinds of intelligence.  These include:

(A) Verbal/Linguistic (ability to use words and language)

(B) Logical/Mathematical (ability to reason or use logic)

(C)Visual/Spatial (ability to see things or visualize)

(D) Bodily/Kinesthetic (ability to control body movements and handle objects skillfully)

(E) Musical/Rythmic (ability to produce and appreciate music)

(F) Interpersonal (ability to relate to and understand others)

(G) Intrapersonal (ability to self-reflect and be aware of one’s inner thoughts)

(H) Naturalistic (ability to see patterns in nature)

Did the results of your survey surprise you?  Why or why not?

What kind of intelligence do you think Timothy has?  Why?
